The nearest
four-lane road is US Highway 190. More than 50 motor freight carriers
operate out of Baton Rouge, providing a wide variety of shipping
services. There are also numerous specialized commodity (dry bulk,
liquid, heavy haulers, and reefer service) and contract carriers
available to accommodate a broad range of materials.

Pointe
Coupee Parish is served by the Union Pacific Railroad. Union Pacific
is one of the largest transportation companies in the US, covering 20 states
with 22,000 miles of rail. More plastics are shipped on this system than any
other railroad. Union Pacific also owns the worlds largest freight yard
devoted solely to handling plastics with room for 3000 covered hoppers.
Most feedstock chemicals are transported in tank and hopper cars,
but Union
Pacific also has Bulk-Tainer intermodal tank container service for
tank trailer volume shipments, and regular container service for
packaged chemicals.
The Kansas City Southern Railroad also runs through Pointe Coupee
Parish. |

The Greater Baton Rouge
metropolitan Airport, located 35 minutes from Pointe Coupee Parish,
offers direct air service to 24 cities from Baton Rouge. Five major
airlines offer 28 daily flights with connecting air service through
Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Memphis, Nashville and New
Orleans. New Orleans International Airport is located 100 miles
from Pointe Coupee parish and provides direct air service to 49
domestic cities and 4 foreign destinations.

The False River Airpark is located on LA Highway 1 approximately
two miles northwest of the City of New Roads. This general aviation
airpark offers a lighted, 5,000 foot hard-surfaced runway, hangers,
aviation supplies and a terminal building. |

| Waterways |
The
nation's largest navigable waterway, the Mississippi River, lies
on the eastern boundary of Pointe Coupee Parish. Barge shipments
can reach any part of the 19,262 mile-long Mississippi River system
including points as far north as Minneapolis, Minnesota and Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania.
The Pointe Coupee Port and Industrial Park is located 15 miles north
of Bachelor and connects with the Mississippi River at the Old River
Locks. The depth varies from 10 to 50 feet and has a 350 foot long
dock, an 80-ton crane and a grain elevator. Approximately 100 acres
of port-owned land is available for industrial and commercial development
with access to water, sewerage and electricity.
The closest deepwater port is the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, located
approximately 60 miles south of the Pointe Coupee Port. It is the
fifth largest port in the United States and the farthest inland
deepwater port on the Gulf of Mexico via the Mississippi River.
A channel depth of 40 feet and width of 500 feet is maintained by
the US Army Corps of Engineers. The Port of Greater Baton Rouge
has Foreign Trade Zone status which affords low-cost production
and warehousing facilities for imported and export-bound products.
The Port of New Orleans, located approximately 130 miles from the
Pointe Coupee Port, is the nation's leading port for the exportation
of rubber and plastic articles. The Port is also the international
gateway for a 14,500-mile system of inland ports and waterways that
serve the heart of the nations industrial and agricultural
business. |
